International Research Forum on Monetary Policy

5 July 2002

Today and tomorrow, on 5 and 6 July 2002, the European Central Bank (ECB) is hosting the first in a new series of recurring international conferences – the International Research Forum on Monetary Policy.

The Forum is organised and sponsored by the ECB, together with the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the Centre for German and European Studies at Georgetown University and the Centre for Financial Studies at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. Its aim is to provide opportunities to discuss new research on theoretical and empirical aspects of monetary policy that are relevant from a global perspective. The Forum will meet regularly at locations alternating between the euro area and the United States.

The opening remarks by Willem F. Duisenberg, President of the ECB, and Edward Gramlich, member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, and the speech by Professor Otmar Issing, member of the Executive Board of the ECB, will be put on the ECB's website at: http://www.ecb.europa.eu/events/conferences/html/intern_research_forum.en.html in the course of today. The programme of the first conference in the series and the academic papers presented at the conference are also available at the same address.

Participation in the conference is by personal invitation only.
